Diabetes and Hearing
Hearing loss from diabetes affects all speech frequencies but is more pronounced in the higher frequencies.

This increased hearing loss could be the result of either changes in the circulatory system resulting in less blood flow to the blood vessels of the ear or changes in the nervous system-typically death to some nerve endings in the inner ear.

With these changes the diabetic also stand a risk for decrease speech understanding due to missed or compromised signals reaching the brain.

If you or someone you love have diabetes, you should have regular hearing screenings every year. Treatment is available.

Hearing loss is like watching your children grow. it happens so gradually, its often difficult to see the changes that seem obvious to others. Hearing loss is not a disease but a condition that usually can be easily corrected. Don't put off any longer getting your hearing screened.
